TheBlaze is holding Tomi Lahren’s 4.2 million Facebook followers hostage
Ousted TheBlaze host Tomi Lahren is learning some hard lessons about what intellectual property actually belongs to her while negotiating her exit from the conservative network after her views on reproductive rights clashed with Glenn Beck’s, the outlet’s founder.
According to an exclusive from TMZ, TheBlaze might not let Lahren take her Facebook page with her in the negotiation for her severance package.
We saw something similar when BuzzFeed personality Matt Bellassai struck out on his own after achieving internet celebrity via his video series “Whine About It.” Although Bellassai built his fanbase on social media, BuzzFeed retained his 1.5 million fans when he left the company and had to start amassing a following over from scratch. The same may be the case for Lahren’s 4.2 million Facebook fans.
The massive social media following is a major bargaining chip for whichever network wants to pay Lahren to look straight into the camera and opine about how there’s no White History month and yell about Benghazi.
A decision is expected to be reached between both parties by the end of the week. In the meantime, where are 4.2 million people are going to have to get their poorly articulated reactionary screeds elsewhere.
