Restore sanity? Yes, we can. (Well, maybe, at least.)
D+T contributor Xavier Aaronson woke up at an ungodly hour, checked the Rally to Restore Sanity schedule, and joined what seemed like half of New York City to get on one of Huffington Post’s DC-bound buses to head to the Stewart-Colbert extravaganza.
Sanity scored a victory early in the day when the logistical wizards at Huffington Post neatly got everyone organized and boarded onto the fleet of buses, despite the massive crowd that showed up for the rally. Sanity, it seemed was starting to be restore before the wheels even started rolling for DC.
The Jon Stewart rally (which is playing live on Comedy Central, by the way) estimated about 150,000 by about 1:00pm, the time Stewart took the stage. Colbert emerged from the floor of the stage soon after, reportedly ascending from his “fear bunker” in a replica of the vessel used to haul Chilean miners to safety.
Xavier will be Tweeting updates throughout the day—make sure to follow us Twitter to get the latest updates.
Up next: Size matters. (At least with crowds.) So is Jon Stewart more popular than Glenn Beck? Check back for more updates soon.
