Flaming Lips and Neon Indian Collaboration: “Is David Bowie Dying?” [Listen]

The Flaming Lips and Neon Indian release their 12″ collaboration “Is David Bowie Dying?”  Have a listen.

Any time the Flaming Lips release new material it’s a cause for celebration.  But, when the band announced they’d be collaborating with Neon Indian on a new release, people were understandably giddy.

The result, “Is David Bowie Dying,” and it’s a suitably strange affair: occupying some of the same space as David Lynch’s music. It’s a dark, psychedelic number with tinny, reverb-drenched guitars, subtle percussion and analog synth mayhem, and sounds more Flaming Lips than Neon Indian (except in certain parts).

Seems more than a little tacky to try to get attention for your song by talking about the death of someone who has had heart problems for several years now and is of the age where he COULD be dying. Nice of them to use his health as a marketing scheme.

What? You think the Flaming Lips will get significantly more attention for their song if they name-check Bowie? I don’t think the Flamers need to look for more attention at this point.

Flaming Lips + Neon Indian for 1 jump is cool, but Flaming Lips chasing trends like “chillwave” or whatever is the real question. why?
