Line-Up Announced for 2011 Afro-Punk Festival

If you’re in New York, it looks pretty good and won’t cost you a dime to get in.

If the definition of the “punk” part of the Afro-Punk festival seems a little loose, it’s OK because as Hollywood Holt says (in the video below), it’s not a genre, it’s a state of mind. Plus, the line-up looks pretty excellent. Janelle Monae, Cee-Lo Green, Santigold, Fishbone, Jay Electronica, Toro Y Moi, Ninjasonik, Cerebral Ballzy and a bunch of others.

The fest isn’t just music, there will also be skate and BMX contests, food trucks, a painting wall and custom bike show. It’s free, and will happen in Brooklyn’s Commodore Barry Park on August 27 and 28. For all the details, head over to the official Afro-Punk page. Pro-tip from last year: there’s absolutely no shade and the park is mostly pavement, so plan accordingly, sun-protection-wise.

Check out the video below for highlights from last year.
